The intention of Full Circle Fund’s massage service is to give comfort and relief to those who enjoy and appreciate manual touch therapy, and those who may wish to try it, especially at a time when prolonged human contact and company may be limited in the hospital setting. Following a referral and consent from the medical team, the practitioner will discuss symptoms, medical history and the desired results so the therapy session can be tailored to the person and their current situation.
Massage has been reported to help reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and tension, increase feelings of relaxation, and aid a sense of general wellbeing.
Where people are spending long periods in bed or a day unit chair, or are unable to move or walk around, massage and touch therapy can help provide gentle, passive movement and help simulate light activity.
This service is provided at St George’s Hospital, London and at University Hospitals Sussex, Brighton.
We are expanding into other Trusts, if you are a health professional please see here for further information.
